Stanley Cup champs sign coach to one-year extension

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Anaheim Ducks coach Randy Carlyle signed a one-year extension today to guide the Stanley Cup champions through the 2008-09 season."Randy has been the perfect fit for this organization with his hardworking, aggressive style," Ducks general manager Brian Burke said. "He has been a major factor in the success we've had the past two seasons."
The Ducks became the first California team to win the Cup when they finished off the Ottawa Senators 4-1 in the championship series last week.
Anaheim won its first Pacific Division championship with a 48-20-14 record for 110 points, setting franchise records in several statistical categories including wins, standings points and goals.
The Ducks have a regular-season record of 91-47-26 since Carlyle was hired in 2005.
Anaheim beat Minnesota, Vancouver and Detroit to reach the Stanley Cup finals for the second time. They lost to New Jersey in seven games in the 2003 finals.
