Strong earthquake hits Guatemala; no tsunami threat

An earthquake estimated at between 6.8 and 7.0 in magnitude occurred off the southwestern coast of Guatemala in Central America at about 9:30 this morning.No destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in 'Ewa Beach that issued an advisory bulletin about the Guatemala temblor.
The earthquake's epicenter was reported to be about 70 miles south-southwest of Guatemala City.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake.
