4-H Clubs receive $10,000 to help with auction

Carole Kai Charities has stepped forward with a $10,000 one-time award that will allow 4-H Clubs of Hawaii to have its show and auction during the Hawaii State Farm Fair in July.

The events suffered a setback when organizers learned that long-time sponsor Meadow Gold had cut its support from $10,000 to $1,000 less than three months before the fair.

The charity's board members learned about the 4-H need and responded by granting emergency funding to sponsor the 4-H Livestock Show and Auction, said board chairman Larry Okinaga, in a press release.

"Agriculture is a very essential thread of Hawai'i's fabric of life and we must protect and nurture our youth's interest in agriculture and animal husbandry," said Carol Kai, co-founder of the charities. "The 4-H does just that in Hawai'i and brings out the best in our young folk."
