Maui student wins Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto award

Advertiser Staff

A Maui Community College student has been awarded the 2007 Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Vocational Education by the University of Hawai'i.

Reese Lee won the award, which was established by family members to honor the namesakes' role in development of the food industry in Hawai'i. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and significant contribution to vocational and technical education by a community college faculty member or student.

Lee recently completed an independent study curriculum in the Administration of Justice (AJ) program at Maui CC while at the same time working as a full-time Adults Corrections Officer. He was instrumental in exposing the world of corrections to his classmates by organizing and leading them on tours of Maui Community Correctional Center. In addition, he worked closely with the AJ faculty to improve the curriculum and program by giving valuable feedback and advice and teaches martial arts to children.
