Shares of Hoku Scientific soar on polysilicon deal

Shares of Hoku Scientific Inc. rose sharply today after the company announced that it will provide up to $678 million in polysilicon to Suntech Power Holdings Co. over a 10-year period.

Shares of Hoku were up $2.44, or 53 percent to $7.02 in late morning trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

Hoku Materials, an Idaho-based Hoku subsidiary, will begin providing the material to Suntech in mid-2009.
