An Army staff sergeant accused of setting up a meeting online to have sex with a 13-year-old girl was released today after posting $40,000 bail.

Ray John, 29, who is stationed at Schofield Barracks, is charged with first-degree electronic enticement of a child.

John was arrested Tuesday morning at Manoa Marketplace by Hawai'i Internet Crimes Against Children task force agents after showing up at an agreed-upon meeting place.

John allegedly arranged the meeting in a chat room with a Honolulu police detective posing as a 13-year-old girl.

John's initial appearance is scheduled for Monday at District Court.

If convicted, he faces a mandatory sentence of one year in jail and five years probation.
