John S. W. Lim, an associate judge of the Hawai'i Intermediate Court of Appeals for eight years, died this morning at age 55, the state Judiciary said.

"We are devastated by the loss of such a young, intelligent, hard- working, and dedicated jurist," said Chief Justice Ronald Moon. "We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Evva, and their two sons, Ethan and Evan.

"He will be sorely missed."

Lim, a graduate of Farrington High School, Harvard College and Stanford Law School, was appointed by then-Gov. Ben Cayetano in 1999 to a 10-year term on the appeals court.

He was one of six judges on the apellate panel.

Moon appointed Lim a District Family Court judge for Honolulu in 1993. Cayetano appointed him a Circuit Court judge in 1995 and four years later later named him to the Court of Appeals.
