LAM ADVANCES

Honolulu's Chris Lam won the Qualifying Draw at the $15,000 Recoating West Futures event Monday in Loomis, Calif.

Lam's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Joseph Atas moves him into a first-round main-draw match today against South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

Lam will also play doubles today with partner Rylan Rizza. They will take on Victor Estrella and Alberto Francis — Lam's teammate on UCLA's 2005 NCAA Championship team.

This is the first of two USTA Futures events Lam will play in the Sacramento area.

Lam moved up four spots in the latest world rankings. He is now No. 642 in singles, one away from his career best.

Lam is a career-high 609 in doubles. Among American players, Lam has career-best marks in singles (52) and doubles (61).
