Former world kickboxing champion Dennis Alexio must go to Virginia to explain why he didn't comply with a subpoena to testify before a federal grand jury investigating a woman in a tax case, a federal magistrate ordered today.

Alexio and his lawyer protested that the request for his testimony was "harassment" and opposed the transfer, but federal Magistrate Judge Leslie Kobayashi ruled that federal attorneys established that Alexio was the person named in the warrant for his arrest in connection with the subpoena seeking the grand jury testimony.

Federal authorities in Virigina contended that the target of the grand jury investigation alleged that Alexio provided information that she relied on.

"As such, it is essential and necessary to the grand jury investigation that Alexio describe any conversations and contact he had with the target, a resident of the Western District in Virginia," the U.S. attorney's office there said.

Kobayashi ordered that Alexio be transferred by June 22.

In the meantime, Alexio remains in custody.

He was arrested at his 'Aiea home on Tuesday and is being held at the Federal Detention Center.
