Carroll drops out of NBA draft; returns to Utah State

Associated Press

LOGAN, Utah — Jaycee Carroll, leading scorer in the Western Athletic Conference last season, said today he has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return for his senior year at Utah State.

Carroll, who averaged 21.3 points per game, worked out for the Utah Jazz. He had said he would withdraw from the draft unless he believed he would be a first-round pick. The deadline is Monday.

"Coming back to school will give me the opportunity to continue to develop as a player and enhance my draft status for the next year," Carroll of Evanston, Wyo., said in a statement.

"I also want to finish my degree and help Utah State contend for a Western Athletic Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA tournament," he said.

Carroll's decision means Utah State, 23-12 last season, will have three starters returning in the fall
