Wilson is at 10-over overall, makes the U.S. Open cut

Advertiser Staff

Little did Dean Wilson know when he finished his round hours ahead most of the field that he would make the cut at the U.S. Open.

The projected trim — top 60 players and ties in the 156-player field in Oakmont, Pa. — was at 5-over when the day started.

Wilson was at 10-over.

He shot a 4-over 74 today, which included a bogey on the final hole.

But as the day progressed and the scores soared, so did the cut line.

At the end of the round the cut was 10-over and Wilson made it through, advancing to play on the weekend.

Wilson had a roller-coaster round. He carded a double bogey on the third hole. He followed that with successive birdies only to follow with back-to-back bogeys for a 2-over 37 on the front nine.

He bogeyed the 10th and 12th holes before recording a birdie on the par-3 13th. He closed with a bogey on No. 18 for a back-nine total of 2-over 37.

Wilson, a former Kane'ohe resident and Castle High alum, shot 6-over 76 yesterday.
