200,000 expected at Ala Moana fireworks show

Advertiser Staff

Ala Moana Center said it expects more than 200,000 residents and visitors to view this year's annual Fourth of July fireworks display launched from Magic Island.

The mall, which sponsors the state's largest and privately funded annual fireworks show, said it has contributed close to $3.75 million for the event since 1991. Other sponsors this year include Pepsi and the Ala Moana Hotel.

Ala Moana Center plans to host live music performances at the mall from noon to 8:30 p.m., starting with entertainment on the mall's Centerstage until 5 p.m. when a free outdoor concert begins on the makai parking deck fronting Sears. Local performers will include Sean Na'auao, Robi Kahakalau, Frank De Lima and Henry Kapono. Gates to the makai parking deck open at 4 p.m.

The fireworks start at 8:30 p.m. Ala Moana Center has contracted Pyro Spectaculars by Souza to produce the fireworks show, including musical choreography during the display that will simulcast on KINE and KCCN radio.
