KEALAKEKUA
30-day term for fatal accident

Advertiser Staff

A Kona judge has sentenced a 26-year-old truck driver to 30 days in jail for a Dec. 27, 2004, head-on crash on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway that killed the 17-year-old student body president at Kealakehe High School.

Judge Elizabeth Strance also sentenced Cecil Cacal to a year of probation and five months home confinement subject to electronic monitoring for the crash that killed Sarah Rosenberg.

Cacal was a delivery driver for Suisan Co. Ltd. and told police he was distracted just before the 8:53 a.m. crash by papers blowing around the cab of his truck. He pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor third-degree negligent homicide.
