A homegrown miracle

Every now and then you just have to stand up and cheer.

Dozens of onlookers did so this week, with the realization of a small miracle: a plantation-style house that volunteers built for a family of six in the space of one week. Next door, also volunteer-built, stood a community center to house Keiki O Ka 'Aina, a nonprofit cultural organization,

Not such a small miracle, perhaps. It's the perfect season-opener for TV's popular "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" series.

Almost as inspirational as the feat itself was the outpouring of gratitude from Honolulu spectators, some of whom brought gifts for the crew.

It's wonderful to offer the world a glimpse of how lovely, and loving, life can be in our Aloha State.
