Kurt Nino, the 2004 state high school champion about to start his junior year at San Francisco, won the 36-hole Manoa Cup match play championship today with an 8 and 7 victory over incoming USC junior Edward "E.J." Stenftenagel at Oahu Country Club.

The 99th playing of the Manoa Cup ended when Nino made a 30-foot birdie putt on the 11th hole, No. 28 on the day.

Nino had taken a 5-up lead after the first five holes and never trailed.

It was Nino's second 36-hole Manoa Cup final. He lost to Kellen-Floyd Asao in 2003, at age 15.

It was Stenftenagel's first Manoa Cup. He lives in Indian Wells, Calif., and had played OCC just once before this week.
