Moderate earthquke rattles area near Solomon Islands

An earthquake assigned a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 shook an area near the Solomon Islands about 11:25 p.m. Saturday night Hawaii time, according to the United States Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program.There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries caused by the temblor.
Three other earthquakes, each with an estimated magnitude of 5.7 were recorded in the western and southwestern Pacific in the past 24-hour — one each near Indonesia, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands.
