Runway work may increase noise in some areas on Maui

Advertiser Staff

KAHULUI — The state Department of Transportation advises Kahului, Wailuku and Spreckelsville residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over these areas due to airfield maintenance work on the main runway at the Kahului Airport.

Runway 02/20 will be closed nightly from 12:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, through Saturday June 23, for maintenance work.

Newly resurfaced sections of the runway will be re-grooved to provide aircraft greater traction during takeoffs and landings.  These closures will lead to a reroute of flights to Runway 05/23, resulting in increased air traffic over the Kahului, Wailuku and Spreckelsville areas. Residents are advised of a possible increase in aircraft noise during these times.
