Key West, Oct. 19-28, Fantasy Fest. Themed "Gnomes, Toads and White Rabbit Tea Parties," this campy multiday, multievent metrosexual celebration includes a costume parade sponsored by Captain Morgan rum, a headdress ball, a street fair, a pet masquerade (featuring cross-dressing animals and their look-alike owners), a fancy dress party, a toga party and more. www.fantasyfest.net.

Wimbledon, England, June 25-July 8, Wimbledon Tennis Fortnight. The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club hosts the queen of tennis tournaments in Wimbledon, 20 minutes outside London. www.wimbledon.org.

Venice, Now-Nov. 21, The Venice Biennale. Extending from early summer into fall in odd years, the Biennale celebrates contemporary arts — the visual arts, dance, theater, film and music, with hundreds of events and performances. www.labiennale.org.

CHINA

Various cities, Sept. 10-30, FIFA Women's World Cup 2007. Sixteen of the world's best women's soccer clubs compete for the world title. www.fifa.com.

NEW ZEALAND

Christchurch, Nov. 11-18, New Zealand Cup Week. This week of activities kicks off the New Zealand horseracing season, but horseracing isn't the only attraction; the rather unusual lineup includes fashion shows, an agricultural fair, food events and more. www.nzcupandshow.co.nz.

MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL

The Montreux Jazz Festival, this year July 6-21, held on the eastern shore of beautiful Lake Geneva, is one of the most famous in the world. The extensive program now includes jazz, blues, rock and pop. Highlights of the jazz in the 2007 program include Chick Corea & Gary Burton, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood, Erik Truffaz, Dr. John, George Benson & Al Jarreau and Norah Jones. The Montreux Jazz Café has a nightly program of DJs and bands and the "Off" Festival, a forum for up-and-coming artists, provides hundreds of free, open-air concerts. Catch live music on the terrace, where the view of the Alps and Lake Geneva is hard to beat. BASTILLE DAY

Bastille Day, July 14, is France’s most important national holiday, commemorating the storming of the former high-security prison and the uprising that marked the beginning of the French Revolution. There’s a huge military parade on the Champs-Elysées, and further celebrations take place all over the city, including fireworks at 10:30 p.m. The evening before the big day is spent dancing in the Bastille square and at numerous balls that are organized around the city. The partying continues all day and later thousands of people come together again at the Champ-de-Mars to watch the fireworks at the Trocadéro. On top of all that, most bars and clubs stage their own celebrations, so take your pick. If you’re not in Paris, don’t worry: Every village in France has its own celebration, with fireworks, street fun and lots more. WOOD SHOW

Hawai'i's Woodshow 2007, Sept. 8-16 at the Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St., is the 15th annual exhibit of the finest woodworking that the Islands have to offer. The show is a statewide, juried exhibition that showcases the work of our premier wood artists. More than 100 pieces handcrafted from dozens of beautiful locally grown woods are featured.
