Kidney Foundation sets Saturday screening in Waipahu

Advertiser Staff

The National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii will hold free public kidney testing from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Waipahu United Church of Christ at 94-330 Mokuola St.

One in seven adults in Hawai'i has chronic kidney disease. Another one in seven adults in Hawai'i is at elevated risk of chronic kidney disease, according to the foundation.

This Kidney Early Evaluation Program screening is designed to help identify the disease before it becomes a major health crisis for the individual. Many people don't realize that the chronic disease frequently progresses to a very serious level before the individual has any symptoms and that's why it is often called "The Silent Epidemic."

This screening will check: blood pressure; blood testing for: blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney function, anemia and bone health as well as urine testing.

It is free and open to the public. Individuals are asked to call 589-5921 or go to www.kidneyhi.org and click through to Comprehensive Screenings under the Program/Services for more information.
