Bishop Museum holds lecture on culture stewardship

As part of its Kupuna Lecture Series, The Bishop Mueum is holding "On Being Kahu," a two-part lecture that will explore the culture stewardship of specific kuleana. The first session will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 21 at Atherton Halau, and will be about caring for family heirlooms. For those in possession of family heirlooms this is your opportunity to learn from Bishop Museum conservator Valerie Free on how to malama your treasures for the next generation. Admission is $5; free for Bishop Museum members.

Free will be assisted by Janet Mason of the Canadian Conservation Institute, Elizabeth Nunan of Buffalo State University and Aimee Ducey of New York University. Both are graduate students in conservation training programs.

The evening will begin with a tour of the "Pauahi's Legacy" exhibition in Castle Hall.

The panel will be moderated by Jalna Ke'ala, 'Ahahui Siwila o Kapolei (Kapolei Hawaiian Civic Club).

The second session will be held at 6 p.m. on July 12.
