Youth soccer teams fare well in West Regional

Most of the 17 Hawai'i teams in U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev., earned opening-round victories today.All teams will play three matches in pool play with second- and third-round matches Tuesday and Wednesday. Quarterfinals begin Friday with the finals on Saturday.
More than 10,000 teams nationwide competed in U.S. Youth Soccer State Championships with about 900 advancing to regional play in Las Vegas (Region IV, West), Des Moines, Iowa (Region II, Midwest), Portland, Maine (Region I, East) and Oklahoma City, Okla. (Region III, South).
Each division's regional winners will advance to the national final four in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, July 24-29.
