Contemporary Museum expands kids' art workshops

The Contemporary Museum has expanded it's popular childrens' workshops series this summer. Workshops are available for one, two, three and four days for specific age groups. Advance reservations and payment required. For a full schedule and to reserve your spot call Tegan Hammond at 237-5230.

Cost: One-day workshops $15 member, $20 nonmembers; two-day workshops $30 members, $35 nonmembers; three-day workshops $45 member, $50 nonmember; four-day workshops $60 members, $65 nonmembers.

Here's the workshop schedule through July:

June 21 & June 22: The Contemporary Landscape

Ages 9-12, instructor Quala Lynn Young

Young artists will use a variety of media to create landscape images inspired by contemporary artists and the TCM grounds.

July 6: Art on the Move

Ages 5-8, instructor Stephanie Chang

Students will learn about shape, form and sculpture through creative movement and a sculpture project.

July 6: Surrealist Collage

Ages 9-12, Instructor: Andrew Rose

Students will cut, juxtapose and paste magazine and newspaper images in this workshop inspired by the work of influential artists Salvador Dali, Max Ernst and Frida Kahlo.

July 17-20: Monoprint Kites

Ages 5-8, instructor Abigail Romanchak

Using monoprint techniques students will create their own colorful designs that will be applied to a hand-made kite (it really flies!) to take home.

July 17-20: Mask Making

Ages 9-12, instructor Quala Lynn Young

Students will use their own face to mold an individual mask they will decorate to express their own imagination and individuality.

July 24-26: Print Fantastic

Ages 5-8, instructor: Andrew Rose

Inspired by work from the Artists of Nineteen Going on Twenty, students will explore block printing, painting, pattern, design and color using acrylics.

July 24-27: Mix it Up!

Ages 9-12, instructor Quala Lynn Young

In this fun class, students will create images of their own choosing by cutting, collaging, rubbing and printing.
