ERS pension fund to divest Sudan-related investments
Advertiser Staff
The Hawai'i Employees Retirement System is required to divest investments in companies that do business with the Sudanese government under a bill signed into law by acting Gov. James "Duke" Aiona. The bill is meant to put pressure on the Sudanese government for the genocide occurring in the Darfur region and requires the $10.9 billion fund to come up with a list of companies that do business with Sudan. It will have to sell investments in companies that have business with the Sudanese government if no action is taken to end the relationship.
