Japan-America Society to honor Earl Okawa

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii will honor Earl Okawa on his retirement after 15 years of service as society president at a lunch on June 28 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom

Okawa also has served as president of the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation since 1992 and the Ehime Maru Memorial Association since 2001. Under his coordination, the society has conducted a variety of educational programs for the schools, informational programs for members and the community, seminars, panel sessions, and special projects.

The society credits his help in strengthening the U.S.-Japan relationship and helping to teach the children of Hawai'i as as future leaders and global citizens.

Registration is required and must be submitted by Thursday. Please contact the Japan-America Society of Hawaii at 524-4450 or admindir@jashawaii.org to register. The cost is $55 individual, $1,000 donor's table and $550 regular table. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and program at noon.

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii is a nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting understanding and friendship between the peoples of Japan and the United States through the special and unique perspective of Hawai'i. Founded in 1976 by a group of visionary community leaders, the Society has nearly 1,200 members and presents about 50 educational programs each year for its membership and the community.
