Relive that warm-fuzzy Father's Day feeling: Go to The Advertiser's HawaiiMoms .com to join the conversation about what makes a great dad. It's also where you can talk story with other moms in our forum. Here's what one mom said about the trend toward more relaxed "Beta Moms": "I think the greatest thing ... (is) how we don't have to be perfect to be good moms and how we need NOT get sucked into this competitive sport of motherhood/parenthood. ... REAL SIMPLE

KNOW WHEN TO KISS THEM GOODBYE

Can this sweater be saved? The June edition of Real Simple takes on the keep-it-or-toss-it question. For example:

  • A stained canvas tote is salvageable. Remove light dirt stains using a dry gum eraser. Just don't spot-clean; that leaves a water stain.

  • A stretched-out neck on an acrylic or rayon sweater? Not fixable, especially if it's been dried at high temperatures.

    FINAL WORD

"If I had it to do over again, I'd do less, not more. ... What a child needs most is knowing she is safe and loved, in a calm and peaceful home."
