A 32-year-old man was taken to Hawaii Medical Center West in stable condition after receiving a substantial electrical shock at about 1:15 this afternoon in Makakilo.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were told the man was operating a jackhammer when it came in contact with an underground power cable.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Kikala Street.
