MLB: Former Baldwin star Suzuki hits major league homer

Advertiser Staff

Kurt Suzuki, a 2001 Baldwin High School graduate and former Cal State Fullerton player, hit his first major league home run today in the Oakland A's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Suzuki, who was called up by the A's from Triple-A Sacramento on June 10, started at catcher and hit his solo shot to left-center field in the eighth inning on a 1-1 pitcher from Reds reliever Todd Coffey. The Reds were leading the game, 5-2, going into the ninth inning.

Suzuki is batting .444 (4 for 9) in his first four games.
