Kim shoots 3-under 69, four others advance at Publinx

Kimberly Kim shot a 3-under 69 for the second straight day at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.

Kim, a 15-year-old former Big Island resident now living in Arizona, finished in second place at 138 and will be one of 64 golfers to advance to tomorrow's match play. First-round leader Tiffany Lua of California shot 2-under 70 today to lead at 137.

Play was delayed twice for two hours this afternoon due to thunderstorms.

Other Hawai'i golfers advancing were Pearl City's Mari Chun (72-72—144, T11), Lihue's Miki Ueoka (72-75—147, T27), Honolulu's Kristina Merkle (75-74—149, T36) and Honolulu's Xyra Suyetsugu (73-78—151, T44).

Honolulu's Stephanie Kono (77-76—153) and Wahiawa's Britney Choy (79-74—153) are two of eight players tied for 60th. They will head into a playoff tomorrow to decide the final five spots.

Missing the cut were Kahului's Kyung Kim (76-80—156, T85) and Hilo's Summer Mizusawa (79-78—157, T94).
