TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List," 7 p.m., Bravo; with reruns at 8 and 9 p.m. Kathy Griffin keeps a shield of I-don't-care bravado. Beneath that, however, it's clear that she's had a rich relationship with her parents, as revealed in this involving episode. They are warm, quirky and — no surprise here — funny. Amid diversions — including plans to do comedy on a lesbian cruise — Griffin learns her dad is gravely ill.

"P.O.V." season-opener, 10 p.m., PBS. One of TV's great series launches its 20th year. "P.O.V." often has passionate documentaries with a strong point-of-view. It opens, however, with the quietly observant "Rain in a Dry Land." Anne Makepeace met Somali Bantu people who lost their homes in tribal warfare. Then she followed two families being resettled in the U.S. It is a huge jump for kids who have never been to school, adults who have never seen stairs. "Rain" offers a bittersweet view of new lives.

OF NOTE

"America's Got Talent," 7 p.m., NBC. The third round of auditions is in Chicago.

"On the Lot," 7 p.m., Fox. One film director is eliminated and five show their work.

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. This rerun has a man arrive who says he's dying of poison. He can't be saved, but he wants the killer caught; meanwhile, Ziva is sure she's seen this guy.

"The Unit," 8 p.m., CBS. This rerun has a mission go terribly bad, when the team tries to plant nuclear-detection devices in Iran.

"House," 8 p.m, Fox. This rerun has Tritter tightening his pressure on Dr. House. Now he suspects (correctly) that Dr. Wilson lied to save his friend. Amid these distractions, House tries to save an 18-year-old who has been raising his younger siblings.

"AFI Life Achievement Award," 9 p.m., USA Network. Each year, this special offers lots of stars and clips, plus some laughs. This year's ceremony, taped two weeks ago, honors Al Pacino, 67. In one stretch from 1973-76, Pacino had an Oscar nomination every year — for two "Godfather" films, "Serpico" and "Dog Day Afternoon." He's had four more since then, finally winning for the 1992 "Scent of a Woman."

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. As Detective Benson investigates possible child abuse in an apartment building, she comes down with the same medical symptoms shown by the boy and his mother. Also, the wrestler named Goldberg guests, tossing things around the police office.
