Live Island entertainment will be just a click away when the Ala Moana Hotel launches a summer series of Hawaiian music shows, starting today, to be streamed live at www.AlohaVideo.tv.
Pekelo, a 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee from Maui, kicks off the series, with appearances by previous Hoku winners Randy Lorenzo and Auntie Genoa Keawe.
Performances start at 5:30 p.m., at the Pakele Lounge (formerly the Mahina Lounge), at the Ala Moana. Future programs will take place on Wednesdays, through July. The shows are open to the public, though seating is limited.
"This is a great way for people all over the world to see and enjoy Hawai'i's music as if they were there enjoying it themselves first hand," said Grant James, general manager of Ala Moana Hotel, in a statement.
The Webcasts, produced in a partnership between the Ala Moana, with AlohaVideo.tv and LavaNet Inc., have the potential to expand viewership beyond the local market to widespread fans on the World Wide Web.
"Since online video provides the opportunity to interact with people all over the world in a way that is increasingly dynamic — with live streaming video, we can take this Hawaiian musical experience even one step further," said Pali Ka'aihue, president of LavaNet, Inc.
Ka'aihue is a musician himself — his group, Pali, is a contender in the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.
The concert series will be hosted on the following Web sites:
