Diamond Head funds released

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $700,000 for improvements to Diamond Head State Monument. The money will be used to stabilize the rock face above the access tunnel and make various safety improvements throughout the state park.

Improvements will help in rockfall mitigation and slope erosion that have affected interior trail sections and the park's entrance, as well as Diamond Head Road.

An additional $4 million has been included in the administration's budget request for improvements to the rock face adjacent to the summit trail, the exterior rock face adjacent to Poka Place and exterior rock faces along Diamond Head Road.
