Hawaii teams advance in youth soccer regional

Real 89, the only Hawai'i team to go through its pool play unbeaten, is one of at least eight Hawai'i teams to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Las Vegas.Seventeen Hawai'i teams from various age groups competed in the regional. Six more teams are playing later tonight.
Real 89, competing in the boys under 18 division, beat Oregon, 7-1, today to finish 3-0 in its grouping. It plays Sereno White of Arizona Friday when quarterfinal action begins for all age groups.
Also advancing from Hawai'i today were:
Boys—Abunai (U12), Hawaii Rush 93 Nike (U14), HSC Bulls 88 (U19). The U19 team defeated Nevada, 3-2, to advance to the quarterfinals.
Girls—Ka'oi Rampage (U12), Ka'oi Express (U13), HSC Bulls 92 (U15) and HSC Bulls 88 (U19). The U13 team beat Alaska, 6-0, and will play California South, which went unbeaten in its group. The U15 Bulls, who were unbeaten entering today's match, tied California South, 1-1.
Quarterfinals begin Friday with semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday.
More than 10,000 teams nationwide competed in U.S. Youth Soccer State Championships, with about 900 advancing to regional play in Las Vegas (Region IV, West), Des Moines, Iowa (Region II, Midwest), Portland, Maine (Region I, East) and Oklahoma City. (Region III, South).
Each division's regional winners will advance to the national final four in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, July 24-29.
