University of Hawai'i graduate Kanoe Kamana'o is one of two Western Athletic Conference candidates for the Division I 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. WAC senior woman administrators selected Kamana'o and Utah State's Jennie Twitchell as their candidates.

The national award will be announced Oct. 27. It is presented to the senior female student-athlete with the most "distinguished achievements in the areas of service, leadership, athletics and academics."

Kamana'o graduated as the career assist leader for Rainbow Wahine volleyball and the WAC. Her 6,428 assists rank seventh in NCAA history. She is the 15th player in AVCA history to earn four All-American awards, including two first-team selections.

The 'Iolani graduate also helped the 'Bows blow through the WAC in her four seasons, winning four conference championships and all but one match in her career. She was WAC Player of the Year her final three seasons and earned the conference's Joe Kearney Best Female Athlete award in 2005 and 2006.

Kamana'o also earned UH scholar-athlete and all-WAC academic awards all four years. She was on the COSIDA Academic All-District team three times and also volunteered for PAL and DARE.

Twitchell is a three-sport athlete at Utah State. She earned All-American honors this year after finishing fifth in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

In other WAC news, Hawai'i finished fourth in the conference's annual Commissioner's Cup. The award goes to the school that performs the best in each of the WAC's 19 women's and men's championships.

Nevada won this year's Cup with 93.50 points, on the strength of four conference titles. It was followed by Boise State (86.50), Fresno State (76.00) and Hawai'i (75.25). The Rainbows tied for fifth among the nine WAC schools last year.
