Cataluna's 'You Somebody' opens July 13

Advertiser Staff

"You Somebody," the hit musical first produced by Diamond Head Theatre in 2002, will be revived as the concluding show of DHT's current season. It opens July 13 for a run through July 29.

The show has Advertiser links — it was written by columnist Lee Cataluna and its theme is the quest for fame. The central character, Pua "Ma" Lusa (played by Loretta Ables-Sayre) is a household mom with the misguided but earnest desire to attain local glory: to find her name boldfaced in Wayne Harada's Show Biz column in The Advertiser.

The production boasts songs by Keola Beamer.

The cast also features Wil Kahele as Daddy Lusa, Pomai Lopez as Lisa Lusa, Angela Morales of Na Leo as Eloise Baga, and former beauty queens in cameos — Cathy Foy Mahi and Cheryl Toma Sanders alternating as Miss Hawai'i #1, Traci Toguchi as Miss Hawai'i #2 and Denby Dung as Miss Hawai'i #3.

Also in the cast: Kimo Kaona as Bobby Lusa, Leilyn Lui as Trina Lusa, TJ Tario as Small Joe Lusa, Scot Izuka as Lucky Fortunato, Chris Villasenor as Jason Baga, Wayne Nunez as Daddy Baga, and Brad Mezurashi, Diamond Tachera, Catherina Guerero and Tommy Olson as the Baga children.

John Rampage is director, John Kolivas is musical director.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays, with 3 p.m. Saturday matinees on July 21 and 28.

Tickets: $12 to $42; discounts available for students, seniors 62 and older and active-duty military.
