Hospitalized murder suspect could be indicted

A 62-year-old man recovering at The Queen's Medical Center from apparent self-inflicted slash wounds to his wrist could be charged, possibly by indictment, for the June 13 murder of his wife.

Victorio Barayuga's injury is reportedly not life threatening.

His wife, identified by the medical examiner's office as Liwliwa Barayuga, 63, died of a stab wound to the chest, according to autopsy findings, which listed manner as homicide.

Mrs. Barayuga is the state's fourth and most recent victim of domestic violence, according to the Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Other 2007 victims are Ingeborg Jandura of Canada, Marie Annette Mundon and 14-year-old Tyran Vesperas-Saniatan.

Prosecutors and police can either wait until Barayuga is released from the hospital to arrest and charge him or seek an O'ahu grand jury indictment.
