OCEAN VIEW
Help needed to remove grass

Advertiser Staff

Volunteers are invited to help remove invasive fountain grass from roadsides in Ocean View on Saturday.

The effort from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is backed by the Ocean View Community Association and Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park staff. Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at the Ocean View Community Center, and should bring lunch, water, a hat and sunscreen.

Native to northern Africa, fountain grass is one of the few invasive species that colonizes young lava flows. It fuels wildfires that can spread to rural subdivisions.
