Athletics send Kalani alum Komine back to Triple-A

Advertiser Staff and News Services

You can forget that all-Hawai'i battery in the major leagues for now.

The Oakland Athletics activated right-hander Rich Harden today from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Shane Komine to Triple-A Sacramento.

Komine — a Kalani High alum — was called up from Sacramento Monday to give some length in the bullpen, but he did not pitch during his short stay.

Komine joined Baldwin alum Kurt Suzuki, a catcher, who was promoted to the A's last week.

The 26-year-old Komine, who made his major league debut with the A's last season, is 3-8 with a 5.31 ERA in 14 starts for Sacramento. He was second in the Pacific Coast League with 14 home runs allowed.

Harden, who has been out since April 16 with a strained right shoulder, will initially pitch out of the bullpen as he tries to build up strength to eventually return to the rotation.
