Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle today released $3.2 million for improvement projects at Kalaheo High School and He'eia Elementary School.

Most of the money — $2.48 million — will be used for structural and drainage improvements at Kalaheo High intended to mitigate flooding and structural problems caused by settlement.

In addition, $235,000 is earmarked to provide safety improvements at the school, which include eye-wash stations, emergency showers and fume hoods for science classrooms.

He'eia Elementary is getting $550,000 for electrical upgrades to support the school's computer and technology equipment needs.

"These repairs are critical to maintaining the safety of our students, teachers and staff," Lingle said in a written statement released by her office. "Repairs are also needed to maintain the buildings for future generations."
