Public schools award 10,700 diplomas in 2007

The Department of Education awarded 10,524 high school diplomas and 176 individually prescribed program (special education) certificates in 2007.

The completers represent 95.8 percent of 11,170 seniors enrolled in public schools at the end of the 2006-07 school year.

More than one-third of the graduates earned the more challenging Board of Education recognition diploma, which required additional credits and a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Other noteworthy statistics:

i 'Anuenue School (O'ahu), Ke Kula O 'Ehunuikaimalino (Big Island), Hana High & Elementary (Maui), Lana'i High & Elementary, Laupahoehoe High & Elementary, Ni'ihau School and Waialua High & Intermediate (O'ahu) had 100 percent high school completion rates.

i Every graduate of Ke Kula O 'Ehunuikaimalino earned a BOE diploma. Kaiser High (48.5 percent), Kalani High (45.4 percent), Pearl City High (43.2 percent), Moanalua High (43.1 percent) and Kaua'i High (41.9 percent) were the next highest in BOE diplomas.
