Database maps 22 Hawaii faith groups' causes

Advertiser Staff

The Mapping Faith database of 3,000 faith groups working for progressive causes is now available online. It identifies 22 such groups in Hawai'i. (To view the groups in Hawai'i: http://faithinpubliclife.org/map/index.html?searchstate=HI.)

Faith in Public Life, a nonprofit, nonpartisan group, launched the online database documenting a nationwide resurgence in progressive faith. It identifies groups organizing around more than a dozen causes, including poverty, the environment, human rights and peace, race and immigration, and is searchable by issue focus, state and ZIP code.

An analytical report accompanying the Mapping Faith database finds a diverse nationwide faith community: 631 interfaith, 554 Catholic, 499 mainline Protestant, 263 Jewish and 100 Evangelical groups organize around progressive causes. Also, there are no red state-blue state divides, with 1,573 groups in red states and 1,331 in blue.
