'Broken heart' documenter to speak at UH-Manoa

Advertiser Staff

Broken hearts abound in literature and movies.

But it turns out "broken heart syndrome" is a real medical condition, first documented in Hawai'i this year by University of Hawai'i medical student Stephen Chun.

Chun published his findings in the International Journal of Cardiology, and will speak Thursday at UH-Manoa.

Broken heart syndrome was first recognized on the Mainland in 2004. Chun diagnosed the first case in Hawai'i as a second-year medical student at UH-Manoa.

Chun will speak in the Yukiyoshi Room in Krauss Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.
