Restaurant tidbits

 •  From the welcome to dessert, Epic stands tall

Events: Chef Hiroshi Fukui has a cadre of fans who await his three-times-a-year 10-course contemporary kaiseki dinners with bated breath. The next one is July 3 at his Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas in Restaurant Row. You can book a table any time between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Fukui doesn't just rejigger what's already on the menu — he creates new dishes, using sometimes surprising ingredients. The dinner is an audition of sorts — some innovations wind up on the menu. Price: $75 food only, $100 with wine pairings. For reservations: 533-4476.

To mark its 10th anniversary, Panya Group will hold "Sophisticated Bling," a fundraiser for Shriners Hospital for Children, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Panya Bistro, Ala Moana Center. The event will feature music by Fiji, Inoa'ole, Hot Rain and others. Gourmet pupu, a dessert buffet and martini and wine selections will be served. Tickets are $110, $50 of which is tax deductible. For reservations, call 479-7727 or e-mail sales@panyagroup.com.

Australian celeb chef Paul Wilson will lead the culinary team at "Melbourne: Under the Stars" on Saturday at Events at the Tower, Aloha Tower Marketplace. The Australian American Chamber of Commerce (Hawai'i) teamed with Australia's Tourism Victoria and Jetstar (Qantas' budget sister airline) to present an evening of wining and dining highlighting produce and ingredients from Australia and Hawai'i. Also on hand will be O'ahu chefs Donato Loperfido and Phillipe Padovani, showcasing dishes from their new joint venture Elua. Tickets are $100. Call 526-2242 or go to Fujioka's Wine Times in Market City Shopping Center.

Closings: The T.G.I.Fridays on Ward Avenue and in Waikiki have closed.
