DANCE: JUNE 29-JULY 1

Innovative dance troupe 24-VII brings "Red" to the Paliku Theatre stage, with more than 120 dancers from 24-VII Danceforce, University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior Dancers and the University of Hawai'i Drumforce. The program includes new choreography in a variety of dance styles such as jazz, hip-hop, modern, breakdancing and drumming. Elaborate costumes are promised, too.

FIREWORKS: JULY 4

First there's a lineup of entertainers, then there's the fireworks over Magic Island. Yes, it's the 16th such celebration sponsored by Ala Moana Center. The music begins at Centerstage with Manoa DNA at noon; Kamau, 2 p.m.; Mighty J, 4 p.m. A showcase (5-8:30 p.m.) on the makai parking deck features Frank DeLima, Natalie Ai Kamau'u and Halau Hula Olana, Sean Na'auao and Robi Kahakalau, Maunalua, Go Jimmy Go, Henry Kapono and eight-0-eight. The fireworks start at 8:30 p.m.

CONCERT: JULY 4

Former "American Idol" contestant and Nuyorican heartthrob Mario Vazquez, whose hit "Gallery" (written by Ne-Yo) took the airwaves by storm, will light up Fashion 45 on the Fourth of July. As for his "American Idol" stint: Fans will recall that he voluntarily withdrew when he reached the top 12 in season four.

Halau from Japan and Hawai'i come together once again to celebrate hula's rich traditions at the two-part, sixth annual Hula Ho'olauna Aloha Festival, below. The first day is a dance exhibition; the second is a competition/demonstration.

"See, Taste, Listen Korea!" at the 6th annual Korean Festival featuring Korean music, dance, food, cultural displays, family activities, as well as Korean-made and local products. Highlights include Korean cooking demonstrations, kim chee-eating contest, youth singing contest and more. The event is presented by The Hawaii Korean Chamber of Commerce.

The 2006 Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame inductees — Mahi Beamer, Nina Keali'iwahamana, left, The Brothers Cazimero and Emma Veary — will perform and be celebrated in a concert titled "Lei of Stars." Kumu hula Pohai Souza and Halau Hula Ka Mamo Liko Lehua and Halau Na Kamalei (kumu hula Robert Cazimero) also will join in. Harry B. Soria Jr. is master of ceremonies and Randy Hongo is accompanist.

The annual Prince Lot Hula Festival, above, themed "Olelo mai na kupuna mai — the legacy lives on," turns 30 this year. Besides much noncompetitive hula, there are kapa, ipu, lauhala and lei-making workshops and demonstrations and food booths. The Queen Emma Hawaiian Civic Club will teach ancient Hawaiian games. Bring beach chairs or mats. Commercial photography is not allowed.

FESTIVAL: JULY 22

Talented youths, virtuosos and international guest performers will showcase that four-stringed instrument at the Starbucks 37th annual Ukulele Festival, below. Headliners include Herb Ohta, Jake Shimabukuro, Holunape, Manoa DNA, Ho'okani Pila, Simon Clothier (London), Guam Ukulele Club (Guam), Sunset Strummers Ukulele Band (California) and Yugi Igarashi from Japan. Food booths (oh, and Starbucks drinks) and 'ukulele displays round out the attractions.
