Makua brushfire contained, highway reopened

Advertiser Staff

A major brushfire in Makua Valley kept firefighters busy for several hours earlier this morning but was finally contained at about 6:15 a.m.

At its peak, approximately 10 fire companies battled the two-acre blaze, which was first reported about 3:45 a.m.

Police had shut down traffic in both directions on Farrington Highway about 4:30 a.m. to allow firefighters to deal with the fire.

Firefighters will monitor the site throughout the day to deal with any flare-ups.

The fire did not threaten any homes.
