Surfing: Patacchia wins second-round heat in Chile

Advertiser Staff

Fred Patacchia Jr. of Oahu's North Shore won his second-round heat in the Rip Curl Pro Search contest today.

Ten heats of the second round were run in 8- to 10-foot waves at Arica, Chile. The competition was postponed after Patacchia's heat because winds started blowing onshore.

Patacchia defeated Australia's Dayyan Neve, 11.4-10.0.

He is the fifth Hawai'i surfer to advance to the third round. The others are Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Pancho Sullivan and Kekoa Bacalso.

The contest is the fourth of 10 stops on the 2007 World Championship Tour.
