The 48-Hour Film Project, which gives filmmaking teams the opportunity to write, shoot and edit their film within a 48-hour period, July 20-22, after receiving a genre, character, prop and line of dialogue that they must work into their film. Hawai'i Theatre Apprentice Program, attend classes, go on field trips and talk with visiting artists to learn specific areas of theater production including set, costume and lighting design, stage management and directing; open to high school students; $200 lab fee for the 2007-08 season. Honolulu Men's Chorus seeks singers — gay and gay-friendly men in all vocal ranges — to join the chorus in rehearsals for Faure's "Requiem," 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Call for location: 429-9600.

"From the Top," the National Public Radio program that showcases young classical musicians, will be taping two programs in Hawai'i in November. PAGEANTS

2008 Narcissus Queen Pageant, sponsored by Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, is accepting applications for the pageant scheduled for Jan. 5. Contestants must be single (never married or given birth), 19-26 years old on the date of the pageant, at least one-half Chinese, and a Hawai'i resident. Application deadline is July 31. 533-3181.

2007-08 Miss & Mister Island Gem Pageant seeks female and male contestants of any age for the Oct. 20 pageant at Zanzabar Nightclub. Registration fee is $25; entry and training fee is $50 for 9 and younger and $100 for 10 and older. Application: 853-7216. Deadline is Aug. 11.
