In an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division season featuring several top pitchers, 'Aiea's Randy Castillo stood out above the rest.

Castillo, a hard-throwing junior right-hander, went 4-0 in the regular season and helped Na Ali'i (9-1) win the OIA West championship. He was voted OIA West Player of the Year by division coaches.

Among Castillo's four victories were a five-hitter with six strikeouts against Pearl City, a 10-inning, 12-strikeout performance to defeat Mililani, 1-0, and a shutout with seven strikeouts against Kapolei.

Castillo also had big games at the plate, hitting a grand slam against Waialua and going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs against Waipahu.

Mililani led the way with four players selected to the West's all-star first team: Rylen Cadium (first base), Dustin Antolin (pitcher), Travis Jones (designated hitter) and Richie Mariano (utility).

'Aiea, Kapolei and Leilehua each placed two players on the list: Na Ali'i also was represented by outfielder Cody Aquino, while Kapolei placed second baseman Kalani Brackenridge and shortstop Aaron Santiago and Leilehua was represented by third baseman Desmond Ontai and catcher Ehukai Woolley.

Outfielders Ben McQuown of Wai'anae and Rory Nakayama of Pearl City round out the list.

Kapolei's Tom Ebanez was named Coach of the Year.
