EPA's Pacific region launches new coral reef Web site

As part of National Oceans Month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Pacific Southwest Region has launched today a new Coral Reef Web site containing information on coral reefs, funding sources for coral reef research and other information useful in the protection of reef ecosystems.President Bush proclaimed June 2007 National Oceans Month. The goals of National Oceans Month are for people to learn more about the vital role oceans play in our daily lives, the benefits the ocean provides, and how to protect and preserve our ocean resources.
The new site contains information on coral reefs and threats to reefs. It also highlights the Pacific Southwest Region's role in reef protection through: compliance and enforcement; biological assessment and coral biocriteria: and reducing land-based pollution.
The site also includes an updated 2007 listing of competitive grants and other funding available to states and territories for coral reef protection.
