Golf: Maui's Kyung Kim wins qualifier in Kentucky

Wailuku's Kyung Kim shot a 6-over 78 to top the girls qualifying field at the American Junior Golf Association's Houchens Industries Junior Open at Alvaton, Ky., yesterday.Kim, who just finished the seventh grade at Maui Waena Intermediate and is moving to Arizona, advanced to the three-round tournament that begins tomorrow.
"The slopes on the green got me a little, so I know where to hit it now," Kim said on the tournament Web site. "My putting is working well, making those hard three to four footers saved me a lot today."
