Man accused of crashing stolen vehicle into Kauai home

Advertiser Staff

Kaua'i prosecutors today charged a 28-year-old Kapa'a man who fled the scene after crashing a stolen vehicle into a home in Kapahi.

Christopher Almeida was charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, first-degree criminal property damage, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, and drunken driving.

Alameida is being held at the police cellblock in lieu of $23,650 bail.

According to police, Almeida ignored an order to stop his vehicle in Kapa'a town last night at 11 and rammed a police vehicle while fleeing. Police gave chase, but lost sight of the vehicle.

At about 11:20 p.m., police followed up a 911 call on a report of a vehicle crashing into a Kapahi home, injuring a male resident who was in the living room watching television.

The man was treated for injuries at Wilcox Hospital.

Police arrested Alameida after a woman saw him hiding in her home near the crash scene.
